Fall Maintenance: Replanting the tees and the fairway on the 7th

Starting Tuesday, November 10, Thomas Ovadia, our fantastic course superintendent, and his team will be reseeding the white and blue tees as well as the 7th fairway. While this work is underway, we’ll be playing from the yellow and red tees. We’ll need to be patient for a few weeks this fall to ensure we have thick, lush tees and a fairway in top condition come spring.

Fall is the best time of year to plant. The soil is still warm, moisture is returning, and the intense heat is behind us. So now is the perfect time to prepare for next season.

What's Going to Happen at the Starts

  1. Remove the dead grass to clear the area.
  2. We loosen the topsoil to make room for the new seeds.
  3. Add sand to create a real “seedbed.”
  4. First, we sow the seeds, then we use the “spyke”: this tool pushes the seed into the soil where it can find coolness and moisture to germinate properly, and mixes it with the existing soil.
  5. Liquid fertilizer is sprayed as soon as the first shoots appear to accelerate growth and tillering—that is, the thickening of the lawn.

The 7th fairway, too

The 7th fairway follows the same principle. It remains playable during construction, with no special rules.

Why these lawns?

  • White and blue shoots: tetraploid English ryegrass. It is more heat-tolerant and grows quickly, depending on the weather.
  • 7th Fairway: English ryegrass and meadow bluegrass. Meadow bluegrass is heat-tolerant and has deeper roots, so it retains water better.

These grass varieties are chosen to better withstand hot summers, which are becoming more and more common.

What's Changing for Your Game

  • The white and blue runs will be closed for the duration of the construction work.
  • Everyone is playing the yellow and red tees.
  • Do not walk on the tee boxes or hit balls there—not even for a practice swing. A crushed or pulled-up seed means one more hole in the spring.
  • On the 7th hole, play as usual. Just remember to replace your divots to help the new grass grow.
  • Please follow the signs along the route.

We'll let you know as soon as the white and blue runs reopen. The weather will have a say in that.

Thank you for your patience and for respecting the work of our on-site team. They’re working hard to make this a wonderful spring for you. In the meantime, you can review our course hole by hole.

See you soon on the course—and at the 19th hole!
